The place is well decorated and the view is great, but the establishment isn't anything great beyond that.
The service was quite slow, and the food took a considerable time to arrive on what appeared to be a fairly average night (The place was about half full). For pub food, it was a bit below par, for food in general, it was quite mediocre.
Last time, when I was having lunch in pho Hoa, i saw a rat under my seat. I noticed the Waitor by that time, but he had ignored me. After that I saw inspectors came to Pho hoa. So I guess that wasn't 1st time had rats in store.
Today, when I drive by pho Hoa, I saw the store is closed , I think they were suspended by the city for hygiene reason.
But they have lie to us, that the store under renovation. I would never go back there again. So scary to eat w rats. PHO RAT!!!
Went to Charcoal in Richmond last night, based on the dinehere.ca recommendation, only to find the lights out. Also read that it has closed.

The Shoestring Cafe is the neighborhood restaurant everyone wishes they had around the corner from their home. This family-owned restaurant is the perfect balance between casual and fine dining. It's a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere - in the Crestwood Industrial area of northeast Richmond. Once you've tried it though, you'll quickly realize this is one of the best places to have lunch or early dinner within a 10 km radius. The other eateries in the neighborhood (sandwich shops and noodles houses) aren't even in the same league.
Shoestring serves upscale comfort food in a welcoming atmosphere with attentive and prompt service. It's perfect for an upscale lunch. You have to try their hearty seafood corn chowder, pasta dishes, and their grilled steak (with shoestring potatoes, of course). All their dishes are well-prepared, delicious, and attractive. The prices are affordable (main courses range from $10-15) and the portions are just right - small enough to finish, but large enough to make you satisfied.
Shoestring is a real windfall for anyone near this area of Richmond. Speaking with the chef-owner, he reveals he developed his craft through decades of work in B.C., California, and overseas. Honestly, this place feels like it's a Yaletown restaurant scaled down to fit the suburban business hub in East Richmond.
We came from Surrey and thought that we give it a try.
Big mistake. We ordered the seafood teriyaki which I thought it would be a good choice. After all, what can
go wrong with this. It comes with what they call a 7 course which includes miso, sunomono salad, tempura,
meal and ice cream. The miso & salad was so so. Tempura was decent. Dinner was completely deep fried
with teriyaki sauce over it. It was gross. The scallop was size of a dime covered in batter. Fish was
so dry from over deep fried. Ice cream was the only good item.
We had a coupon which still wasn't worth it at all. Imagine if the meal was fully priced.
I used to love this place a lot though not anymore after having this bad bad experience. I don't even want to give a single star to them.
Last Saturday, we were enjoying the meal then at the end found a PLASTIC BAG INSIDE THE POT!!!!!! Imagining it boiling and poisining the food entire time made my appetite disappear. But what pissed me off most was the reactions they took, wasn't sincere at all. They just said sorry in a small voice then first offered us an another hotpot for free, which is super stupid cuz we were obviously full, then instead they gave us an offer for a free drink and 10 percent coupon which is gonna expire in 3 months but who's gonna want to go back to a place like this... My anger reached to the boiling point as their name...
I strongly don't recommend going to this place, but if you still want to try just don't forget to search inside the soup before starting to eat!

I had everything discussed and written in contract few days prior to the event.
We wanted the Lazy susan and have the whole plate of food on each table instead of individually served. Also we brought $800 for a edible wedding cake.
When the food was being served i asked the manager IVAN why are some tables individually served and he said that the tables requested that way. so i went with it. the next day I hear complaints from my colleagues 3 tables including my boss. They said they asked the server 3 times to leave the food on the table and server still ignored them. Usually in a 10 course meal there are always left overs. in this case my colleagues left hungry and had to resort to eating MCDONALDS and NO.9 restaurant which is so embarrassing.
Empire were short staffed as people requesting pop or a cup and it would arrive anywhere from 1hr to never coming. Real rude slow service. Service was good for me of course i was paying them.
Our wedding cake was assembled by the Vendor at the location, we specifically told IVAN that its a real cake few days ago. The night of we had the first cut and the cake just sat there. i was way too busy dealing with other stuff. the staff never cut the rest of the cake. end of the night about 3 tiers left on our cake. Our friends that stayed late had a few slices and when they walked away from the cake it was suddenly wheeled away assuming its gonna be packaged up. That was the last we've seen on it again its was not our issue to be chasing them for everything. The restaurant needs to do the job we pay them for. The staff probably split the cake.
How my jacket went missing? It was hung at the head table with a flower attached to it. it was there all night until they started cleaning up the head table i didn't realize that i forgot my jacket. i called the next day and they "asked" if anyone has seen it but of course nothing. They have cameras all around the restaurant and they cant have a look at the footage if it wasn't one of the staff then they have nothing to hide.
none of these issues where brought to me until the next day i called empire right away about all this and IVAN said he cant do anything. So i requested to talk to the boss. i called and called and the boss seems to be avoiding me. I left my number for him to call me back and it never happens. i guess obviously they don't care about repeat customers. I hope everyone keys an eye out for all these snakes.
I'm not saying not to have your banquet here but just think twice and be very careful. I really didn't expect a fine dining chinese cuisine would do such things. will never step foot here again.
Been to Zia's a few times and the food is delicious + very reasonably priced. Everyone who works there is really friendly. Lots of space and seating though it can get a little busy during lunch time. Would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere new to grab breakfast or lunch.
The staff the food... everything! ! We decided to eat here on Easter Sunday following a friend's recommendation and I can honestly say it was the best choice we made all weekend! !! The restaurant itself is very cute! And the menu for easter was delicious. Is particularly like to thank the front of house lady. When I made the booking she asked for food allergies which in itself is rare! When I told her I had a gluten allergy I thought nothing of it.
When we started deciding on courses she asked who had the allergy and took my order first to confirm it, it was so refreshing to see someone take it so seriously. Thank you
The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and we could have chatted all night. The staff are very nice, we got talking to the hostess and a waitress about holidays we've recently been on and shared good tips.
All in all the food was wonderful the staff were lovely and it was just such a lovely way to finish off Easter Sunday.
This place has become a complete disaster of what it was with the previous owners. I was a regular customer of the place before the ownership switched. I still gave it few tries after the switch, but tonight was just intolerable. On a sat night we went around 830and were seated, ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks and food came before 910 and around 930 we decided we want to order more and the server tells us that the kitchen closed at 9 and we can't order. We were not notified at all about the kitchen's last call or closing time at all. At this point, we were frustrated and asked to speak with the owner and she came after 5 mins and said they were "out of food". I have never been said that in a restaurant ever before. I told her we were not told at all that the kitchen closed at 9, and she just apologized and left. I would never go to this place again. The food quality and taste is definitely different than the old owners but I still decided to give it a few tries before judging the new owners . The owners can't modify their food at all, i asked them to make the quesadillas spicy and well done to which the server replied,"the chef won't make any changes to the recipe and we can bring u the hot sauce on side." They need to go get a lesson in customer service before owning a restaurant. Very frustrating and disappointing, totally ruined our night. Never going back again.
Cleary don't go there and expect to have a late night dinner on the weekends especially.
Drove down to Steveston with my family to spend the day there. I wasnt planning on eating there, but why not grab some fish 'n chips because the kids were hungry. So we decided on the Shady Island. We got a table right away despite how busy they were. We ordered the seafood platter for 2. It comes with Kalamari, 3 peuces of fish Cod, Salmon and Halibut. The fish and chips were good. The calamari was rubbery and not seasoned well. It was a very poor job with the batter not covering the majority ofbthr squid. The kids just ate fries and a bit of fish. It was $45 for thr platter, the bill totalled $58 with drinks. We left hungry. Im not very impressed, i dont think i would go back here. Its like a tourist trap restaurant. People just go for the novelty.
Still searching for a good fair priced restaurant in Steveston. Shouldnt the fish be cheaper here becsuse they are right next to the fishermans wharf?? I dont get it.

Service was friendly for us and ambience is good. Had a pleasant dinner and when I got home an hour later I had vicious cramps and ended up throwing up and having the runs for 2days. My friend also had the runs.
I informed the restaurant manager and he said he will look into the food quality with the kitchen. He offered a full total Amount spent as a gift coupon to the restaurant.
I don't think we will be returning to this restaurant.

Overall, I think this place will not stay open long under new management. Not only do the chefs need to taste what comes out of that kitchen, they also need a serious training session for the servers.
We had heard a lot about this place and since we had not yet tried sushi in Vancouver, we decided to try this place before leaving. It was a last minute kind of event last week which fit perfectly into the ambience of this place, since it was all you can eat. Oddly enough, this sushi place is run by Chinese people, but as long as you can make it properly I couldn't care less. We were mildly surprised by the value, esp. being ayce. A decent variety to choose from, I would like to say the nigiri sushi was quite good, but the service was a little lacking. Food takes too long to come and servers just kind of stand in their spot and don't come to your table. Their prices are not cheap so I would expect a little more.

i have dinner every other day in Pho 99, bcoz it near and convenient, private parking place, taste like home cook. i feel homesick when i am here. I have tried almost finish the food list in the menu...hahha...big fan of Pho 99, also the young & handsome owner very friendly, he usually talk to me in mandarine, make me feel comfortable .
Everytime i have meal inPho 99, i feel like i am eating at home, my mother cook for me...lol. i have try all dishes from the menu. they are pretty good. i love vegetable, love spring roll and salad roll, but i can't finish two dishes at the same time. last week, the kind, young owner recommend me Pho 99 Dragon roll, i was falling in love with that.fresh vegetable grab nicely the spring roll. it is fresh and crispy. omg!! i love it so much ...lol.
This is probably the worst service I have ever received. I went with 3 friends and they would only speak Cantonese to us, which luckily one of my friends could speak Cantonese. When I asked for water they completely ignored me and would only talk to my friend who could speak Cantonese. We asked for sauce and water which took them 30 minutes and they only came back with one sauce for all of us, I asked for more, and he replied that I was greedy. The food took forever to get and they forgot some of the things which we still ended up paying for. When I asked for more water he replied to me in English " I don't give service in English and you've had enough water." Me and my friend each gave a 5% tip and the women spit on us and told us we were stupid and we weren't gonna go far in life. Also the bathrooms smelled atrocious and were disgustingly dirty. If you are a tourist please don't go there! I don't want anyone to suffer this experience. Also food was sub-par.
Visited here this Sunday past. We were greeted immediately and shown to a table. I remember last time I was here I ordered the snapper, it was outstanding so I opted for this dish once again.
I was not to be disappointed. A delicious , flavorful meal. A rather large portion of fish, tender and absolutely what I remember from before. I love this dish.
The fish came with a generous portion of Greek rice, a nicely cooked Greek potato and some green beans cooked in this fantastic tomato sauce. I am not usually a huge green bean fan but the way they cook these almost have me asking for the recipe.
The service is very solid. Not obtrusive but rather friendly and efficient. In my opinion this is one of my favorite Greek restaurants in the area. Can't wait for my next visit and more of that snapper.
We had a total of 4 people and opted for the AYCE dinner, and each of us also had a beer to go with our meal. In total, our bill came to just over $120, excluding tip. The quality of food was cringe worthy, and the service is by far, one of the worst experiences that I have ever experienced. The reasons are as follows:
1. Very poor food quality. Especially the beef, which had texture and flavour akin to tough leather. The seaweed had a lot of sand on it.
2. It took nearly 15 minutes for the server to come pick up the sheet of paper marked with the items that we wanted to eat. The major aspect though, it that the owner/server literally yelled and used profanity (he told us to f*** off) after he discovered that the tip we left was not to his liking. The owner loudly yelled absurd and offensive things (even made it personal by bringing my children into it) as we were leaving the restaurant, a time when there were still a few tables left in the restaurant. Needless to say, everyone heard and stopped their meal to watch the event unfold.
3. Aside from the items we ordered from the all you can eat menu, we had to ask for the extra items we ordered, such as beer and sauces, despite clearly marking it on the sheet they have for customers to fill out (they charge for sauces and condiments such as green onion, garlic, satay sauce, chili, etc.). We shouldn’t have to ask for our beer, which should have arrived before any food.
4. The hot pot stove/equipment are very simple, portable, and what one would use at home when it’s just a couple of people. For a table of four, this is not sufficient to keep the water hot over the entire course of our dinner, especially when thicker cuts of meat like beef tendon is added to the hotpot.
5. The order in which the food came out was questionable, as they brought out one dish at a time. So, it would only be a plate of meat at once, a plate of seafood, or a basket of vegetables at any given time. These practices are questionable as I felt that we did not truly experience the essence of what hot pot should be – a myriad of different proteins and veggies, and you cook and consume as you ate.
Please understand that I typically tip well. Circumstances when I leave less than 10% is only when the service is terrible (say a score of less than 3 on a scale from 1 to 10). If I had a customer who left us a small tip, I would reflect, and inquire as to why that is, in order to make adjustments or amends. Customer feedback is crucial if you are to survive in this industry.
Only come visit if you want to consume food of poor quality, and in the mood to be yelled at and given attitude from the owner himself.
We bought the $39 Groupon for 2 hotpot combos and went tonight. The meat, drinks, and desserts were great, and service was fast, but we were not served the veggie plates and chef's choice side dishes.
We did not discover these major omissions until we got home and checked on the Groupon site ourselves, so shame on us for failing to read the deal completely before we went, but you'd think that the restaurant would have remembered, considering that this was not the first day/night they served this Groupon deal of theirs, and all the other diners around us were being served the Groupon deals correctly and in full.
So my experience is quite disappointing, to say the least.
BEING SERVED HALF THE ADVERTISED DEAL IS NOT WORTH THE $10 TIP WE LEFT.
