I am a regular at this spot I usually order delivery but have been there umpteen number of times. The place is dinghy not very clean but since I loved the food I ordered instead if going there. Since the owner and I are from the same city I like the food there, however for the last few times we ordered the food wasn't good. I called the owner and he explained the chef was new etc and u said no problemo. I ordered food last night and it came unusually fast, hmm I thought! My and my girlfriend starting eating and the food seemed as if it was some
Leftover from an Indian buffet, slimy and not tasty it smelt weird, so I thought intake the last bite and call the owner the next day (As they were closed), however my last bite was the nastiest where I bit on a staple pin and it felt as if I had broken my tooth!! Was very painful so I called the owner next day and informed him about it reminding him that once I found a nail from a kitchen appliance in my food. Since we are from the same city I thought it was a genuine mistake but this is not the first time and the food is REALLY bad now unlike before!! Real bad value for money and crappy food as the owner doesn't simply care
There were 2 employees smoking under the air intake causing the store to fill with smoke. It was BAD. Smoke was blowing in from the AC vents and even though we moved 4 times we eventually had to leave the restaurant as it was full of smoke. Think smoking in the car with the windows up. We told them they were under the intake and the store was full of smoke but they stayed there and kept smoking.
I ordered the teriyaki lunch special and a bottle of hot sake.
In spite of the fact that their menu states that the meal includes three side dishes and a miso soup, I only received some dry teriyaki chicken on rice and nothing else. I tried to be patient, but I was on my lunch break and after 20 minutes I asked for the rest of my food and my drink (I am a regular customer and order this meal all the time, so I know what is supposed to be served).
The server eventually brought me my sake, and a takeout container??
I would have tried again to explain myself, but for some reason, the sushi chefs (I was sitting at the bar) thought the situation was funny and began verbally ridiculing me in front of the other customers and making fun of the fact that I was drinking sake.
I was so angry and humiliated that I simply walked over the the cash register to pay and leave.
When I tried to explain to the woman at the cash register how angry I was at the way I was treated and the fact that I had only received half of my food, she just stared at me and made no offer to correct the situation.
I eventually paid full price for half a meal and some of the most disgraceful customer service I've ever received.
I used to be a regular at this restaurant and have written several very positive reviews about Masa online. Today I have decided that not only will myself and my family never set foot in this restaurant again, I will also be going back online and re-writing my reviews to let other potential customers know exactly what happened today.
Food was good, atmosphere was nice, staff were friendly. Giving this place 1 star because they screwed up our meal and handled it very poorly.
We were brought the wrong food, we agreed to eat it out of convenience, waiter thanks us and says "I'll take care of it" multiple times. We finish and say we're not interested in dessert, but the waiter brings us a tiny lemon meringue tartlets anyway and insists we eat it. Bill comes and we're charged full price for everything. I ask the waiter what he meant by "he'll take care of it" and he said "Oh I meant like a dessert or something" even though we told him many times we did not want a dessert. I pay the bill (by VISA) and the second I hand the machine back to him he says "I spoke with my manager, we'll comp your meal". "Oh you finished paying already? Come back next time and we'll do something special for you."
We will not be taking them up on that offer.
This is one of the busiest 'White Spot' locations my husband & I have visited. We practically eat at least one daily meal here. (Live & work nearby.) "Good food, great service" are the consistent comments I make on their surveys. I suspect the last review for this location was submitted in 2011, over 5 years ago, because guests are too busy receiving great service and enjoying their meals to write reviews.
The menu goes beyond burgers (which are one of my favorite choices) and makes one of the better waffles I have had compared to those of other restaurants. Our meal substitution requests are accommodated too.
Staff embrace Customer Service as the sole objective. Typically there is more than one host/hostess waiting to seat you so you are either seated right away or have your name recorded promptly. Servers hustle coming and going from tables, but will take time to have a brief chat once at your side.
We order some of the same dishes week after week and their presentation and flavour remains consistent.
The outside eating area is next to fields, conducive to relaxing. We prefer our favourite sections inside this spacious family-friendly restaurant.
My family and I were long-term regulars at this establishment until our last experience here. The food and service were horrible and my husband ended up with food poisoning from his seafood pasta. He was very ill, and missed out on a family weekend with the kids, as well as a very important business meeting. I phoned the restaurant and left my information and was advised that the owner would call me back....never received a call. I emailed the restaurant and also wrote a negative Facebook review. There was no reply to the review, but they did take the time to reply to the woman who responded to my comment about how she no longer eats here either...nice. I did receive a reply to my email, in which they defend the quality of the food and tell me that they hope to regain my trust in the restaurant. I replied, advising that we have four young children and that I find it difficult to justify spending more money with them at this point and asked how they feel they will attempt to regain our trust. It has been a few weeks, and no reply. I'm disappointed that our local pub is not making mre of an effort to make things right.
I don't usually leave reviews for restaurants, but I will for this restaurant. This. restaurant. was. fantastic. By far my favourite Japanese restaurant in Vancouver. I had ordered their assorted sashimi bowl and an avocado salad to try out one of their unique menu - not to mention myself being an avocado freak. Every piece of sashimi in the bowl was SO DAMN FRESH. I have been to many sushi restaurants and I love going to Sushiyama because I personally think their sashimi pieces were the most fresh. But, Sakura Ichiban has definitely topped them off of my number 1 list. The avocado salad was also a great kick to hype up my appetite. i would definitely be going back for seconds, thirds, and more.
My friends and I waited for an unnecessary amount of time. I understand when a restaurant is full and the staff are busy; however, the staff were plenty 'chill' and I saw 2 empty tables with a few cups. I guess that signifies "No, you can't sit here yet because we're too busy to clean up a few cups." The wait got so bad, a few behind us went in and sat at the bar because those tables weren't going to be cleared anytime soon. We finally sat down, had a look at the menu, and a waitress named Bianca came, she was friendly until she found out my friends and I were under 19. Which is why she got annoyed when we said that water would be fine. Then she asked us for our orders but she spoke with lightning speed, and we could barely make out what she was saying from the loud music. My friends and I confusedly answered all her questions i.e "Chipotle Mayo or regular Mayo?" "Avocados or mushrooms?" After she left, I suddenly remembered that add-ons might cost extra so I needed to get her attention. From another table, I saw someone getting her attention. He raise his hand slightly, looked at her and she went over immediately. Then I raised my hand, looked at her and finally when she decided to come over, she said "You don't need to raise your hand, I'll know when to come over." Oh and let me remind you, we still haven't gotten our water after she left us 10 minutes ago. Anyway, my thoughts right after that was 'How do I get your attention without letting you know I need help?' Either way, I asked her if mushrooms and avocados cost extra, she replied a blatant "Yeah." So I continued with "Then can I not have-" And before I even managed to say the last few words she left and started poking her computer angrily. When she came back, she instantly spat in the rudest tone someone could use with a customer "You guys know that Chipotle Mayo also costs extra right? It's a dollar." I dislike mayo so I was about to kindly ask her if I could not have it. Once again, I was cut off by her "You know that's how we make money, right? We charge for the add-ons because $4.95 for a meal is really cheap and we make profit from the add-ons." I still didn't want mayo so I started to speak but before a word escaped my mouth, she left. My friends and I were tired and weary from the long day, the loud music was giving me a headache and I seriously didn't want to talk to her anymore, so we left the mayo on our meals and decided that $5.95 for a meal still wasn't bad. After we waited another 10 minutes, Bianca finally came with water that she slapped onto the table without a word. Another 10 minutes went by and the food arrives. The waiter said "These plates are hot as sin," and he drops the plates on the table, "you guys can figure your own life out." We let it go and started to eat. At first the food seemed decent, I had the "Works Burger" and it was standard, nothing amazing, but I cut it in half as it was quite large. I scarfed down half since I was starving by the time we got our water. With the 2nd half, I slowed down, looked at the burger and noticed something, the patty looked surprisingly bread-like. I poked it with my finger and it bounced back like a sponge. At that moment I realized that they mixed stuff into the meat. We finished the meal quickly, and asked for a split bill, wanting to leave as soon as possible. She brought us one bill and I noticed that she charged us 18% for service (we're a party of 4 by the way). I should've argued, but I didn't have the energy to. We started counting coins since we each owed $7.32. She came over stating they only take dimes and nickels up to a dollar, jabbing her pen into the table to prove her point. Once we got all the money counted, she came over to recount making sure we didn't leave her short. She was painstakingly slow, did her math wrong and yelled at us saying "You guys know the bill is $29.38 right?" Half a second later, she realized "Oh, it's a $10 bill." Overall, this was the worst experience I'd ever had and trust me, none of my friends and I will be going back.
It pains me to write this as the food here is really good and the menu is refreshing - not the usual selection you get in Indian restaurants in North America - but the service we experienced was on a level that was so poor, it feels like a stretch to even go with Poor over Terrible. We waited too long after being seated before drink orders were taken. One drink was forgotten. To order the food, we had to go up and ask our server to take the order - this was about 30 mins after arriving. The food took ages to come. We had to go ask after it and it suddenly appeared, making us wonder if it had been sitting (most dishes were not hot). The server did not know who had ordered what. We had a birthday and cancelled the dessert order as we'd run out of time. For the bill, also had to flag down the server. 10 minutes passed. He comes to the table to ask who had what. Then another 5 minutes before he brings the same bill and manually divided the different parties and just gave a round number to the two different parties. It was very confusing, but by this time we'd lost patience to check the numbers. Then he hovered around apparently waiting for the tip. He never brought my change. Throughout all of this we never saw a manager on the floor. My sister's birthday in this restaurant was a disaster.
I have been to Waka sushi many times. I only go there for their food, but EVERYTIME I am disappointed at their service. The waitress never comes by to ask how the food is or to fill up our water or tea cups. I always leave them 15% tip because I know how serving can be stressful, but it seems as though the one server is stressed out almost everyday. But, overall their food is good and I will be going back there.
I was definitely surprised by how cheap everything was. We had ordered a veggie tempura, agedashi tofu, kyu don, and avocado roll. Veggie tempura was very unique. It had a cinnamon scent to it. I don't know if the scent is from the batter or the vegetables itself, I thought that part was interesting. However, I thought the flour coating on both the tempura and agedashi tofu was a bit too thick. The avocado roll was moderate and kyu don tasted like Korean bbq with rice and veggies. I had expected a more sweet taste of the Japanese Tsuyu sauce, but that had not fulfilled to my taste. Overall, the quality was not bad, but it wasn't great either. However, if I think of the price, I think it was a pretty decent payoff.
I went to Sakura Ichiban for the first time, and it was great! The server was very friendly, great atmosphere, and for the most part, the food was great. I had their tropical roll and gomae and my partner had a spicy salmon roll and an alaska roll. I guess not a lot of sushi restaurants make their spicy salmon roll and alaska roll bad since they are typical dishes. But, their special roll was very unique and was actually very filling. I loved how mild the taste was. I also enjoyed their gomae sauce, it tasted different from other Japanese restaurants. I would love to visit again.
I LOVED my experience at Sakura Ichiban. It's a restaurant that has been around for quite a long time but believe the owners right now have taken over nearly a decade ago. They were so sweet and I really had a good talk with the chef who kept me company whole throughout my lunch. I had their kani sunomono, negitoro roll and couple pieces of nigiri. Everything tasted just awesome and was very satisfied at the filling portion. I think I'll come here a lot more often and willingly introduce my friends to it so they can also have a taste of the fantastic restaurant!
Bad service by one of the waitresses. Went here last night late night dinner with a friend. I ordered TUNA TATAKI sashimi. When I received it, they said I got Tuna Tataki SALAD. I said I didn't order that. The waitress ARGUED with me that that was what I said. The point is she didn't clearly repeated my order if she didn't understood me in the first place. She claims it is already been cooked. I said I didn't order it and I will not pay for something I didn't order and I said to just cancel it out. The waitress was not happy and talked to her manager (in Chinese, which she didn't realize that we can hear her and she called us "F@#$% a@#$%%". The manager came to our table and apologized for the confusion. After we left and went outside for smoke, she came downstairs as she was off and getting picked up, looked and stared at us and gave us the Finger! The thing is this wouldn't have happened if she just made it clear with me what I ordered before she put it in the system. At least she could've repeated my order first if she didn't understand... Overall I liked the food that I got (too bad for the tuna tataki though), but I would not recommend the service.
I had gone to Incendio for dinner last summer, and it was terrific - the service was very attentive and friendly, the food was delicious and the decor was warm and elegant. With fond memories, I was looking forward to returning with my husband.
Finally, we made it there. We had a reservation, and were seated promptly. It took a very long time after that for anyone to check on us and to take our order. The cooks and the servers all seemed more concerned with whatever was happening on their cell phones. There was one server who seemed to be on task all evening, but she wasn't serving our section. On multiple occasions throughout the evening, this server had to nudge our server into making her way over to our table because we clearly needed attention.
Aside from the incredibly slow service, here's what went wrong:
1. We ordered the calamari appetizer. The crust on the squid was rock hard and had too much paprika. We didn't really enjoy it and didn't finish it.
2. DH ordered his steak medium well - we clarified with the server that he wanted well, not rare, and we all had a little laugh about it. I'm SURE she told the kitchen the correct information, but when DH discovered that his steak was rare and we reported the issue, she immediately blamed the kitchen. As a customer, it doesn't matter to me whose fault it is. Just apologize, fix it and move on!
3. While they were remaking my husband's entire dinner plate (which was nice and appreciated), my food was getting cold so DH insisted I should just eat. My meal was finished and cleared away before my husband's meal came the second time. This time, his steak was very well done. It was also very bland, so DH was really disappointed to wait all that time for food he did not enjoy.
4. My gnocchi quattro formaggio sauce tasted nice but the gnocchi was very doughy and amateurly made.
5. The server comped the dessert and teas but didn't take it off the bill correctly. Another wait to get that resolved.
All in all, the meal service took over 2 hours, and we ate fast when the food arrived. Good thing we weren't going to a show or anything afterwards.
The ambiance is still great - it's a beautiful building and the decor is nice. Service needs to pick up speed and professionalism, and the food should be of higher quality for the price.
DH and I will not be returning for a long while.
The diner is very basic and simple. The service was really bad. He was poorly dressed and didn't look very well groomed. His attitude was unfriendly and border-line rude.
I had their Wun Tun soup, which at the time of eating it... tasted okay. Unfortunately, later in the evening after getting back home, I had to stay close to the washroom. The soup was bad.
I looked up the latest Fraserhealth Inspection Report (http://www.healthspace.ca/Clients/FHA/FHA_Website.nsf/0/A8208E50CA7DD63A88258005006E9936?OpenDocument) and saw the folllowing...
Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not properly washed and sanitized
Adequate handwashing stations not available for employee
Food not protected from contamination
Food not thawed in an acceptable manner
Conditions observed that may allow entrance/harbouring/breeding of pests
Food premises not maintained in a sanitary condition
Great Vietnamese Subs and affordable prices... all under $5. Service is friendly! Ideally located close to the New Westminster skytrain station and Douglas College.
The place just recently opened up. Been there many times now and will definitely continue to be a repeat customer. Glad to see quality restuarants like this opening up in New Westminster!
Saturday, August 6, we went to Tsawwassen for an event. Before we went, we googled to find a nice place for lunch. We found this place which had very nice reviews. We ordered pizza to go online and were expecting a nice time on the beach that day.
When I went to pick up at 11am, the order was not ready, so while waiting, I ordered a soup (bowl size, not a cup, after the waitress explained to me the size difference) to go as well.
Okay, after we got to the beach and ready to enjoy, we found out that, first, there was no napkins packed, at all. Well, I can manage that, I guess. But please be warned that the pizza was greasy, so it was a bit messy to eat it with my tissues.
Then, when I looked into the paper bag for the soup, I saw a tiny white paper cup with lid, like the small size Haagen Dazs ice cream. Hummm, I thought I ordered and paid $8+ for a bowl size soup!!!!! Curious, what kind of container they use to put their cup size soup in?? Maybe next time you should ask to see the actual containers for bowl and/or cup size soup before you order!
And, the roasted red pepper soup WAS ICY COLD! I wished it was an ice cream! The soup I ordered from a restaurant was directly from fridge!??!!! It looked like a cup of ketchup! And, another BIG AND, no spoon!!!!
I called the restaurant right away, no one picked up the call. Maybe too busy?
Not sure how other people can have such a nice review, but we honestly have to persuade ourselves to think those are genuine reviews from authentic purchasers.
What a unique setting for Sunday Brunch! My husband & I have eaten at other hotel restaurants for Sunday brunch, but none features an expansive buffet area under skylights in a rain forest-like climate (thanks to the hint of humidity generated by an indoor swimming pool) like this one. And it was only about a 10 minute drive from where we live in Uptown New Westminster.
It wasn't very busy when we arrived shortly after 10 a.m. for our first visit this Sunday, but tables steadily filled as the minutes passed. Our server was attentive, refilling our glasses of water as needed and removing our empty plates. Even with just a partial spoonful of a buffet item your plate fills up fast. You'll have to make a minimum of two trips to the food to try 'everything': salads, cheeses/fruits, hot entrées, carving/omelette station, desserts. For the luxury of food choices and custom portions we paid just $24.95 each. Good, solid value. Period.
In years past, I have enjoyed some of the best burgers at the stand, born and raised in dundarave the Vera's burger shack were rated best burgers on the shore. I decided to try it again last week after many years going without. The service was average at best but I don't care about the service if the burger is good. It was the most unflavorful, boring, inspiced, over priced burger I have ever had. I don't even think it was fully cooked. We ordered 6 burgers for the entire family and not one of us finished our burger.
Some of us had the organic patty others had standard party and all were sub par.
Don't expect to get anything decent from this stand anymore, unless the owners/chef start to put a little pride in their food.
