I went there only because I had a groupon. What a mistake. The pizza is subpar on every measure. It smelled and tasted bad. When I went the guy told me I could only have 2 toppings. I had to point out that the groupon was for any feast pizza XL. He grumbled and agreed. Wow a for a few slices of mushroom he grumbles at his customers!! If he doesn't like the Groupon deal then why did he sign on??? The cheese does not seem real, the sauce was not at all sweet and tasty. It seemed bitter and off. The few slices of mushroom were so thin they were not noticeable. The few green pepper bits were not nicely chopped and tasted bitter. I think they don't bother to trim the green pepper properly. The crust was tasteless and lifeless. We ended up throwing most of it out. Pizza is supposed to be fun and delicious!!! Maybe it's just this location. I won't waste my money or appetite to find out.
The place is not cheap but for a non-Jewish guy who has lived in Montreal and Toronto and as well spent time in NYC I have found the food outstanding from deli to baked goods.
And actually, I love the service; the management is not only friendly and of great assistance but also highly intelligent. Do I wish the cost of a meal were a little less expensive? Absolutely......but I love the place and I am willing to pay bit more for quality and service as well as to support a business owned by people whom I understand are worth my patronage.
It's probably the best Thai cuisine restaurant in the Lower mainland and there's no more caption needed but since I need fifty words I will say u should go there intsead of going to the others Thai restaurant.... the owner is really nice and the service was really great there's not much to say then it's great
The place is well decorated and the view is great, but the establishment isn't anything great beyond that.
The service was quite slow, and the food took a considerable time to arrive on what appeared to be a fairly average night (The place was about half full). For pub food, it was a bit below par, for food in general, it was quite mediocre.
Last time, when I was having lunch in pho Hoa, i saw a rat under my seat. I noticed the Waitor by that time, but he had ignored me. After that I saw inspectors came to Pho hoa. So I guess that wasn't 1st time had rats in store.
Today, when I drive by pho Hoa, I saw the store is closed , I think they were suspended by the city for hygiene reason.
But they have lie to us, that the store under renovation. I would never go back there again. So scary to eat w rats. PHO RAT!!!
The service used to be very good, but not so much now. The pastries are as good as any in the city, but I'm not willing to stand around and wait when I can go across the street and get really good service at Transylvania, which has a different but equally good selection. I wonder what happened, the staff seems to have changed.
Great fast and friendly service. Ice cold Draft Beer priced including the tax.
Best beer price in town and the pints are full measure.
Great pub food - love the deep fried pickles.
Great wings as well.
Great old style pub comfy in the "cheers" style.
Specialty Hot Dogs are a real treat. and priced right.
One of the few places left with NTN trivia.
Great sports bar with lots of screens for your favourite games.
I was craving a Peanut Buster Parfait.....went to the one on Kingsway on my way back home.....I usually go to the one in N. BBy carlton square?
Seems like a nice cozy place when I went inside....saw a man at the cashier first...then he went into the back and it looks very dark...not enough light....needs to be brighter....then I was thinking about getting chicken fingers with fries to go also....but I do not trust if the man or whoever is in the back washed their hands after handling the money.....and money is very very dirty....
The lady that took over....do not know if it was the wife....very pleasant and she knew what she was doing....efficient.....
when I got home I put the parfait in the freezer because I then wanted to eat a sandwich first....it wasn't as good as I remembered whenever I get this dessert....
Just I hope they put more light so its nice and bright and wash wash wash those hands.....please!!!!!!!!!!
Show the people what you did....put a small sink in the front for the employees.....I think they were the owners for this franchise.....
this was my second time coming to this place....the pizza is good but I always look up at the cooks...just in the front there where they are making pizza only...the kitchen you can not see...its a very small small place and I think it opens at 5pm and we went on a Tues. nite....four of us...
so no long line up...just beware of this...long line ups....
I looked at the two guys making the pizza and saw the one guy touch his nose as if he wanted to clean it or pick it.......only stating what I see....and I hope they read this comment so they don't do it again. I think he had dark hair and beard....? It was in February that we went.
I do not usually trust people in restaurants at all....especially Asians.... me being Italian born here.....they are some Italians that are dirty also.....but do not trust people and friends at home....I am a little ocd....but sometimes as you know you have to close one eye....
the pasta that nite was awful...too much al dente...and not enough sauce at all...too dry....
the salad was too big for the plate and bacon on it....the appie with the cold cuts was ok....you want antipasto then probable go to the true Italian restaurants like L'Artista...mind you its been a while....I really miss Al Forno in Gastown years back....so good....the pizza brick oven like now....but I tell ya....it was the Best in those days in Vancouver.
I don't believe in tipping and I do tip...I am not cheap but I just don't believe in it too much....I think its like a another meal there......from $10 and up....
I was reading some of my old comments and Moulin Rouge Rest. did close down...thank God and Cheers is gone....the Sweet Cherubim has changed their menu I believe, so its easier to read.
Too bad that Dine Here does not have just comments sections....
All in All Via Tevere is a good place for food....I only recommend the Pizza.....its the same dough I believe that Famoso, Lombardo's, Marcello's and all these new places for pizza brick oven style uses....type 00 flour from Naples....
I just hope the rest. reads this and tells the people behind the counter not to touch themselves and put cameras in the kitchen so the owners can see what goes on....if the staff are being dirty!!!! This goes for all the Resturants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to Charcoal in Richmond last night, based on the dinehere.ca recommendation, only to find the lights out. Also read that it has closed.
"Discuss every rating in your review text. You must justify your ratings if you submit a 1 or 5 star rating by discussing that aspect in the review text. Failure to do so will result in your review being removed." There really ought to be a better way to show that the establishment has ceased operations.
Apparently the place to go for handmade soba noodles. You gotta be aware, make a reservation. Early, like maybe even week in advance, else you will never get in.
Nice cozy little place, no complaints.
Service, well, they wait staff is quite attentive and responsive. Friendly too, not much I can complain about that aspect. But it's sloooooow. I saw a few other tables around us who had gotten there around sametime or even a bit earlier. We all left around the same time as well and the total meal time was going over 2 hours, and it's not like there was a constant stream of dishes. You get one, then you wait...then another tiny dish then you wait...some types of food and restaurant are amenable to this type of dragged out meal (which can be quite enjoyable), but not here.
Now the food, well, no complaints about the quality of the ingredients in general, but the execution was not mindblowing by any measure. We had a bit of everything.
Some grilled/seared fish was pretty much same as I could get anywhere else. They had sushi (who goes there for sushi?) which generally got good reviews from our table, but it was inconsistent. We had 2 orders and they weren't prepared the same, one piece had WAY too much ginger on it and completely overpowered the bland fish. We also had a grilled fish head/neck (hamachi if I recall), but that was a miss, very large but it was definitely on the fishy side. Ordered an udon as well which was quite good but ... I don't think it was udon, more like somen. And the soba? Well you could definitely taste that it was different. The different broths provided were good, no complaints. But is the handmade soba better? Hmmm... I think the jury is out on this one. (We have been to some fine, fine soba place in Tokyo).
The desert, we had a sampling of the pudding, jelly and ice cream+ganache. It was ok, definitely enjoyable, but really, with Thomas Haas down the street and numerous other dessert places nearby you got to be really different or really good.
Total cost came out to around $50 a person or so, no drinks. Given the long wait, need to reserve and nothing particularly outstanding and being rather pricey, I think I will likely give it a pass for next time.
It is good quality and clearly they have some regulars, but maybe that's due to lack of competition in the neighbourhood rather than people traipsing out here from across town.
This place just feels good. People are friendly. They sell Red Truck Ale. There's live music! They just changed their menu. I like The Shephard's pie, duck club, and the nachos. I don't appreciate the new breading on the wings but they can be ordered without the breadcrumbs. It's called the "gluten free wings"
The board out front boasts 'best sandwich in town' - Yeah, right - you are going to 'wow' me with a sandwich? or soup? or a salad? C'mon....
I'd eat those words but I'm just too full from the BEST chicken club and tomato soup I have EVER HAD! I wanted to go someplace else but my friend insisted. I'm glad she did! I would highly recommend this place. We each had something different - me the sandwich and soup - and my friend had a spinach salad that she said was likely the best she's had. They are not skimpy with the fixins either! You can buy their bread too.
I'm definitely going back - I can hardly wait for the next lunch out!
the place fills up quickly - the table set up is 'communal' and I don't mind that so much except the guys at the other end of table kept hitting the table and moving it so I had to be careful not to slop my soup. There isn't a lot of seating - good thing summer's just around the corner. I only gave the 'ambiance' a 2 because of the noise. The music was really loud and then to fill up the place on top of that - people talking even louder to be heard over the music.....
The only thing I really didn't care for was having them take my name - I prefer a number system or something - the place got busy and I didn't hear the girl walking around calling my name.... I don't like that.
I order the same five thing every time I go to Sushi 5. After a year and a half of ordering the same meals, one would think that they wouldn't need to be reminded of the simple changes that I like. But every time I don't remind them of the changes, they default to their pre programming and I find out later how wrong they were....again. I don't know if I'm not spending enough money there, or 15% tips or too small for them to bother continuing with my business but within 100 meters of Sushi 5 are four other Japanese restaurants that don't seem to forget my changes.. And the attitude that I get from the younger server (millennial) when I point out how at some point they might want to remember a "former" regulars order is the new normal for service industry now a days. They will be loosing out on approx $1300 per year in business. Even McDonalds has better employee manners. It's just that their food will kill you
I was so excited that there was a sushi restaurant so close to the place I just moved into...it's a shame it has such bad service.
I came in and sat down and there were only about 6 other people in the restaurant.
I waited nearly 5 minutes before the server finally brought me a menu, almost 5 more minutes until he came back to take my order after turning and looking at him several times.
I only ordered two items a mango avocado sushi roll and an order of a supreme veggie tempura (or at least a similar name).
My mango avocado rolls came fairly quick and I finished those thinking they'd bring the tempura out shortly after. I also finished my green tea pretty quick as the servings for tea is barely larger than a 1oz shot glass. Couldn't get the waiters attention to get more tea even though at this point there was probably only about 8 people in the whole restaurant. The waiter seemed extremely flustered by this small amount of people as if someone was yelling at him in the back.
30 minutes after ordering I finally get my tempura, and I accidentally knocked my sauce on my leg and the floor so after not being able to get the waiters attention again I walk up to the cash register where someone is paying for their order and just say sorry to interrupt but I spilt my sauce and I need more napkins to clean it up, he hands me one small napkin to use...I use the one napkin he gave me to try to clean it up and I finally look at the tempura and realize it's not even what I ordered. I ordered a tempura that was all veggies, it even listed the special veggies that would be included, none of those were in there but there were lots of prawns. So again I walk back up to the cash register where the waiter is standing ignoring his customers and I tell him this isn't what I ordered, I ordered the supreme veggie and this has prawns in it. He says there are no prawns in the supreme veggie, and I say I know that's how I know it's the wrong order, if you don't believe me you can look at the plate you brought me. So he goes over to look and says oh I guess this isn't the right order and takes the plate and says nothing else.
At this point i'm hungry, i'm annoyed and I just wanna go somewhere else, so I tell them i'll pay for what I ate as I don't want to wait another 30 minutes for the right tempura. Then this guy comes flying out of the kitchen and gets angry and starts badgering me about when I ordered it and that I must have ordered the prawn one and not realized it. I just tell him that I just want to pay for the mango avocado rolls I ate and go. As i'm paying for it I can hear him speaking in another language to the server and saying i'm lying over and over.
How can it be such bad service when there's only 9 people in the entire restaurant? Also it was nearly 5 dollars for just a mango avocado roll, if i'm gonna pay that much it should be much better service than this.
My friends and I frequent this restaurant (particularly this location) a lot. The staff is incredible; the food is just really good. I usually order a double burger with fries; or the Salmon and Chips (both dishes are just excellent) got to say it's just very good food. particularly their burgers are fantastic
Do Have to say though; that their appetizers are not really a bargain at all. Ordered the Chinese dry ribs....Just terrible and for $8? totally a rip off....Also don't like that they charge $1.29 for a side of chipotle mayo
They also came out with a rewards program that if you buy 9 entrees; you get your 10th for free (regardless of price and no entrée is excluded as far as we know......but might want to double check with them first) and best part is; that if your friends in the party don't have the rewards; you can collect on their entrée.....
I just love the food and the ambiance......Be back soon
On a sad note....RIP Eleftherios "Tony" Siliverdis (1948-2017). My best memories are heading to Metrotown for shopping and then calling Zorro's for my 2 for 1 pizzas to go!!! I usually ordered my usually large of 3 topping each....one with beef, onions and pineapple and the other one with chicken, mushroom ...or a pair of large Jerry's specials!! Thanks Tony...made some of the BEST old school pizzas in Vancity!! You will be sorely missed.
Thanks for reading.
This is our second time here, and the experience was worse than the first time. First time was actually alright.
I am trying to give La Cigale the benefit of a doubt, maybe even persuade myself that it's Valentines and everyone's just hectic and busy - especially French restaurants.
But tonight at La Cigale, it seemed everything was just off the track.
At 37.00 per head for the Valentines prix fixe menu, I won't complain about the value. It's not pricey and good for people who want an overall solidly designed and set up French bistro gastrique experience.
Most of my reviews below are due to one critical flaw tonight. NOT ENOUGH SERVERS.
We made a reservation around 2 weeks before Valentines (Today). I would have expected better seat placements or at least give some time to clear one of the now vacated tables so those with reservation could at least feel it was worth giving their time to reserve in the first place.
We stepped into the restaurant and waited at the door for nearly 10 minutes before being greeted and than were told to pick one of the empty seats. There were 3 empty tables. 1 by the door (Literally by the door), 1 by the call out kitchen order window and one somewhere in between. The seats by the call out order window were too narrow for a regular guy to fit in (Girls "Should" be fine if you are thin and petite).
We asked the server if they could clear the now vacated table beside the restaurant window. It's a great table after all and should take no more than 5 minutes to clear.
The server said sure. We waited another 5 minutes before being told it's going to be awhile and we should just pick one of the empty tables.
Now there were only 2 tables left. By the door or by the order window. Guess we were forced to sit by the door.
I am lenient, to an extent so I was trying to think of better moments later tonight.
2. Sit Down
Upon sitting down, it was nearly another 10 minutes before a server came by and gave us tonight's menu. Another 10 minutes before we got our water.
Now, I understand fatigue, business but I do think the main culprit tonight were simply lack of servers. I don't really blame the servers, they are doing their best. I blame the management, who could not foresee the importance of today for many patrons.
On one note, servers did confuse many people's table's orders and had - for our duration stay of nearly 2 hours, uncertainly ask the tables if this was their order or our order before realizing the dishes were for another table.
Food was ok, and I am reviewing this aspect in relations to the amount paid. I don't expect 5 star cooking paying only 37.00 a head. what sort of surprised me was at the golden hour of tonight's service - between 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM - the kitchen ran out of their most in demand meat - duck. There were really only 4 entrees to choose from - 2 pastas, 1 beef, 1 duck. Duck was out during the most busiest time. A let down indeed.
We ended up ordering the mushroom and seafood pasta. Both were solid, but not wow.
Appetizers were 1 tart, onion soup and salad. We got the soup and salad. Salad was quite a let down. It's a salad and at least it could have been made with more texture, flare and variety.
The onion soup was very good and was the star of tonight's menu. The desserts - creme brulee, lava cake and blue berry crumble. We got the lava cake and blue berry crumble.
Both desserts were a let down. no texture variation. Lava cake had no outer layer, just tasted like a very heavy and melted puddle of chocolate jam. The crumble was slightly better but still, a bit more texture variance would have been better. Too sweet as well the desserts.
At the end of our bill, the servers did kindly surprise us with a 10% discount on our total.
We felt this was the only little redeeming quality tonight but not enough to save the poor experience we encountered. We still left a friendly tip amount as we understand restaurant industry is hard work.
For this place to improve, it's not the amount they charge as even if they charged 50.00 or 100.00 per head, if they do not up their game in terms of service and cuisine design, it will be very hard to attain loyal patrons in Vancouver's cut throat restaurant market.
We will not be returning any time soon.
I visited this place for buying meals for myself and for two friends; ordered Tray A.
It was really nice with good food quality. Also it contains huge amounts of food which means it was enough, or even more for 3 people. People who work in here was really kind and provided great service for everyone.
I really suggest to go here if you are planning to eat a food nearby this location. It's worth it, however won't be disappointed.
We booked a reservation for 4 people at 5pm on Feb 05 2017. We showed up at 4:30pm, and the server said he was still arranging the table for reservations for the night, so we waited outside until he done. First of all, he took us to a normal 10-people table set and saying "here was your table for 5 people." We said we booked for 4 people, without saying anything then he took us to a normal 2-people table set and saying, "then, here's your table!". We responded as "we booked a table for 4 people to celebrate the anniversary, could we please have a table suitable for 4 people which we could talk easily and also the table is fit for 3-course dishes for 4 people?' The server replied arrogantly, "You only have 2 options, either that 10-people table or this 2-people table, which one? There's no any other options for you !!" I'm so curios it was not our fault make the wrong reservation, secondly, when we showed up, he saying he's still arranging the tables how come all the suddenly every single table was pre-reserved? Then he just turned around and back office without saying anything. Then, the event leader Bradley Binkley came out the office and tried to back up his co-worker. However, the server, a Caucasian male with gold hair, just stayed inside the office chit chat with another female co-walk, laughing loudly and looking at us with disdain in his eyes. We asked the event leader of the server's name, but however, he said he can't tell us the server's name. How come as a customer we are not allowed to have the server's name? Therefore, we decided to cancel the dinner there since we are not treat as customer and not even allowed to know the server name. And the server never ever came out to apology for his attitude at all. This restaurant will be on my blocked list.
